This is an interview Series for the National Film and Sound Archive Aural History Programme.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

My name is John Fife (JF<\/strong>) and I have with me Morrie Pilens (MP<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

MP: This was channel 0 first up.\u00a0 I insisted for a vehicle, a 2 tonne international van out of which at that stage you had Pro 600 sound cameras, which is a huge bloody camera, runs off 12 volt battery or car battery \u2013 you can\u2019t put it in car or station wagon so I insisted on this 2 tonne van.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d do alright \u2013 you pull up somewhere, open up your window and you\u2019ve got your camera set up and people in front of it and shoot it and boom, off you go.\u00a0 This particular time we turned up at Trades Hall, secretary of the press hall, Mick Jordan, a man\u2019s man \u2013 lefty \u2013 good, sort of man\u2019s man.\u00a0 I was pretty friendly with him from very beginning.<\/p>\n

So, I said to the journalist I had \u2013 what was the name? it\u2019ll come to me \u2013 I said \u2018We\u2019ll do it out in the courtyard here.\u2019\u00a0 And he said \u2018Okay.\u2019<\/p>\n

And I said to Mick Jordan \u2018Look, instead of lugging all the gear up here I\u2019ve got it all set up in the car, would you mind coming down?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Oh, for you Morrie, I\u2019ll come down.\u2019<\/p>\n

So he comes down and I set him up in position and Jim (not that Jim, the other Jim) is here.\u00a0 I said okay, and Jim says \u2018Just a minute please.\u2019\u00a0 And he goes round to the rearvision mirror and starts putting on make up.\u00a0 And Mick Jordan looks at me and I just go \u2018I know nothing!\u2019 and he smiled.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Jim puts his make up on, I put him in position.\u00a0 Do an interview with Mick Jordan.\u00a0 Finish the interview.\u00a0 \u2018Thanks, it\u2019s a take Mick.\u2019\u00a0 Okay, off you go.\u00a0 Got back in the car, come home.<\/p>\n

After the film is processed Jim\u2019s screaming at me \u2018How dare you \u2013 how dare you to demote me to a mere microphone holder.\u2019<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s where that comes in.\u00a0 (Laughter)<\/p>\n

JF:\u00a0 Oh, okay.\u00a0\u00a0 That\u2019s when you walk into a press conference and say \u2018where\u2019s my microphone stand\u2019<\/p>\n

MP:\u00a0 No, this is mike stand<\/p>\n

JF:\u00a0 Aha.<\/p>\n

MP:\u00a0 So, that was a good one.\u00a0 He was screaming!\u00a0 Of course I didn\u2019t bloody film him, I shot over his bloody head \u2013 I had twin shot and a close up and that was it.\u00a0 And he put all his make up on\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
